The word comfort is found very often in the precious Word of God. It is  wonderful to
realize that Holy, righteous, sin-hating God who is Light and Love, so delights to comfort
His dear children—His saints. He is indeed the “God of all comfort” (2 Cor.1:3).
The word comfort or a form of it (comforts, comforted, comforting, etc) appears over 100
times in the KJV Bible. Often, another very similar word can be used in the place of com-
fort
encouragement. How good if we Christians can, in love for our blessed Lord Jesus,
be a comfort and an encouragement in this very dark and sad world.
Our blessed God and Father loves us and as we mentioned, desires to comfort and encour-
age us as we pass  through this world which is so sad because of sin. The dear Apostle Paul
wrote of our loving God that He is the one; “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that
we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we
ourselves are comforted of God
” (2Co 1:4).
The blessed Lord Jesus was so tender, gentle and comforting in His life here on earth. We
should not be surprised at this for He is the divine eternal Son of God, God manifest in flesh
and thus He also is Light and Love. Jesus told us that “I and the Father are one”. Thus He
not only died for us to save us from the awful judgement that must fall on us because of our
sins, but He comforts and encourages us as we follow Him. To those who were in trouble or
suffering He said; “But Jesus turned him about, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter,
be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from
that hour
” (Matt.9:22). “And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they
call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee
” (Mark 10:49).
And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in
peace
” (Luke 8:48).
Only in Christianity is the true God known and He is not a God who hates and who is angry
and must always be feared (scared of). No, our God is the only true God and He is light so
that everything is always known to Him. And He is love for He does not want anyone to go
to a lost eternity called ‘hell’. However, sad to say, many souls do no love God and do not
care that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die for the sins of those who believe in Him.
